IBM puts software engineering students to the test

Two teams of McMaster software engineering students placed first and second in the seventh annual Software Engineering Design Project Competition last week. The competition, sponsored by IBM, is part of the senior software engineering capstone design project in SFWR ENG 4G06. Seven teams participated in the competition.

McMaster hosts Math Enrichment Day

McMaster's Bachelor of Health Science (B.H.Sc.) students have been volunteering at six elementary schools across Hamilton to teach enrichment math to pupils preparing for the Gauss Mathematics competition this spring. The after school sessions have been a tremendous success, with positive feedback from both the students and principals of the participating schools.

Pricing practices cost consumers

You may be paying more for that can of soup or loaf of bread, depending on whether they have an individual price sticker or not. A new study from the DeGroote School of Business finds grocery items individually priced with stickers are more costly for consumers than those with price tags on the shelf.

Strontium helps build strong bones

Researchers developing a new technique that can measure strontium levels non-invasively have stumbled across an intriguing phenomenon: higher levels of strontium appear in Asian people, suggesting the possibility that strong bones depend on where you're born and what you eat.

Solar car featured in Barrie

The McMaster Solar Car Project (MSCP) participated in a joint venture with the Simcoe-Muskoka Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) at the Koslov Mall in Barrie as part of Engineering Week last month. The MSCP displayed their current car, Phoenix, along with a video presentation of their next car, Hyperion, which is still in development.
