Jacek honoured for outstanding service

The award honours faculty who have made an outstanding contribution to the University by providing exceptional service to faculty, librarians, staff, students or alumni.

“I value this award so highly because it comes from my faculty
colleagues,” said Jacek. “At the end of the day, in any profession, it is one's peers that know best how to judge your proformance.”

Jacek was chosen for his contributions to McMaster both internally and externally in the community, province and country that have enhanced the University's reputation.

He served on Senate and the Senate Appointments Committee; served as chair of the Budget Committee; served on the University Planning Committee and the University Capital Priorities Committee; served as chair of the Department of Political Science, president and chair of the Board of Directors of the McMaster Savings and Credit Union, and vice-president, president, and past president of the Faculty Association.

His provincial and national contributions include serving as vice-president and president of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA), and as a member of the
Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).

Since 2004, Jacek has been director of the Ontario Legislative Internship Program. He takes great pride in his students and acts as a mentor to them while in the program and after they have left.

Locally, Jacek has provided leadership to the United Way campaign and the Dundas Heritage Association. For his discipline, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Political Science Association and has acted as chair of the Ontario Graduate
Scholarship (OGS) committee for Political Science.

Jacek also comments on political issues in the media.

In selecting this year's recipient, the Committee considered the following factors:

  • enhancement of the reputation of McMaster University
  • provision of excellent service
  • demonstrated innovation
  • breadth and depth of impact
  • strength of support in nominations
