High school students compete in Engineering and Science Olympics

If you noticed some extra excitement on campus yesterday, you were not mistaken. For the 18th year in a row, the Engineering and Science Olympics and Open House had a successful turnout, with more than 1,000 high school students from 55 schools across Hamilton and southern Ontario.

Gairdner lecture examines new breast cancer therapies

Thousands of women with breast cancer worldwide have cancer pioneer Dr. Dennis Slamon to thank for their survival. Slamon headed the team which discovered Herceptin, a drug that treats a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer called HER-2/neu-positive. He is also leading an emerging wave of new, more effective therapies designed to fight cancer at its genetic roots.

Centre for Student Development offers suicide prevention program

Question. Persuade. Refer. These three steps can help prevent someone from committing suicide. Staff members at the Centre for Student Development have recently completed a 10-hour self-study course in QPR, a suicide prevention program that will also be offered to those who work with students on a regular basis, such as academic advisors and peer helpers.

Boreham selected for Hamilton Spectator Publisher’s Award

Doug Boreham, associate professor in Medical Physics & Applied Radiation at McMaster, has received a Hamilton Spectator Publisher's Award for Education at the annual Industry Education Council breakfast. The award recognized academics who take the classroom to the community and share knowledge with the residents of Hamilton.

The Mills Learning Commons has been recognized by the Project Management Institute as GovSIG Project of the Year. The PMI is the leading management association for project management with 240,000 members in 160 countries. The award recognizes "the quality, art and practice of project management in governments internationally."
