Five professors honoured for teaching excellence

Five McMaster professors have received a boost of recognition for excellence in teaching from the Ontario government's Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Richard Day, Deborah Cook, Marshall Beier, Miroslav Lovric and Mandeep Malik are recipients of the Leadership in Faculty Teaching (LIFT) Award.

Libraries: not just for books anymore

Shawn McCann isn't your typical librarian. He recently joined McMaster University Libraries as the immersive learning (gaming) librarian, but don't think he's playing video games all day. He's responsible for using new technologies like gaming and virtual worlds to make libraries relevant to today's tech-savvy students.

Wes Davies spends his summer days welcoming visitors to campus and clearing up any confusion they might have about getting around. He also works as a flag person, directing traffic on the construction site of the new Ronald V. Joyce Stadium to keep pedestrians safe and traffic moving smoothly.

Eissa Nematollahi, a member of the Advanced Optimization Laboratory at McMaster and a PhD student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, was selected as one of three finalists in the tri-annual International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT) Young Researcher competition.
