DuBeau has gained wide acclaim not just across her home province of Quebec, but throughout Europe and North America as a violinist whose talent is unsurpassed.

She graduated and won first prize at the Montreal Conservatory of Music and went on to pursue her studies at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music from 1981 to 1984. In an effort to learn first hand from a master violinist, she left for Romania to work with Stefan Gheorghiu. Since then, she has become one of Canada's most prominent classical musicians.

In 1997, when DuBeau decided to create a CD dedicated to Vivaldi's works, she found a lack of string ensembles that had the right combination of talent and precision to handle Vivaldi's complicated pieces. So she decided to create what she could not find, and La Pieta was born.

She brought together 10 of the most talented young female musicians from across Canada to create the ensemble. From the start, an instant chemistry was evident when they played and the passion each of them had for the very best classical music was obvious.

La Pieta is comprised of four violins, two violas, cello, double bass and piano. Performing in a semicircle allows each member of the ensemble to have their time in the spotlight.

Ten years later, under DuBeau's direction, La Pieta has gained a solid reputation for flawless playing. The program includes pieces by Saint-Saens, Francaix, Glick, Hisaishi, Morricone, De Falla, Brahms, Enescu and Heidrich.

McMaster will host one of the few stops La Pieta will be making on their 10th anniversary tour across North America and as a special gift, all ticket holders will be receiving a CD of La Pietas finest works, a $20 value for free.

Tickets are $25 for general admission. For more information, please call 905-525-9140, ext. 24246.
