EFRT gets new life-saving equipment

Last November, the McMaster Students Union Emergency First Response Team (EFRT) became the first campus response team, and one of the first emergency medical services in Canada, to begin using a new type of life-saving equipment called an impedance threshold device (ITD).

Funding supports research collaboration with Australian university

The McGuinty government is investing $150,000 to support scientific collaboration between McMaster University and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Researchers from both universities will share knowledge, ideas and resources, including McMaster's powerful Titan electron microscope -- one of the most powerful microscopes in the world.

Student vies for global beauty prize

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then Nicole Hemmer would be beauty with a purpose. The first-year kinesiology student is among 40 Canadian women competing in the Miss World Canada pageant in Toronto next month. The winner of the competition will represent Canada at the Miss World pageant in Ukraine this September.

McMaster’s United Way campaign exceeds goal by $20,000

Increasing educational awareness and reaching the financial target. Those were the two goals identified in August by McMaster's 2007/08 United Way committee. Six months later, all of the hard work paid off with the achievement of the financial target, and an enormous boost in United Way awareness throughout the McMaster community. With the original target set at $180,000, the campaign exceeded this with a grand total of $200,256.

ORCIP changes name to MILO

Times change, people change, and so do McMaster departments. The McMaster department formerly known as ORCIP, the Office of Research Contracts and Intellectual Property, is changing its name to MILO, the McMaster Industry Liaison Office.

Canadian astronaut Dave Williams to speak at McMaster

Canadian astronaut Dave Williams, who took part in an historical mission aboard Space Shuttle Endeavor last summer, will give a public lecture at McMaster University. The lecture, which is part of a free series hosted by the Origins Institute, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Learning, Room 1305/07 at 7:30 p.m.

Booth donates $2 million to Faculty of Engineering

His company's head office may be tucked away in the rolling hills of Ontario's dairy country, but it has strung together the world. Walter Booth (P.Eng.), chairman of the Timberland Group of Companies, today announced a $2-million donation to the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, the institution that he acknowledges helped to set him on a path to global success.
