McMaster prides itself on being one of Canada's most innovative universities. This June, faculty, researchers and students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their innovation and see what their colleagues are commercializing during the first McMaster Innovation Showcase.

Scheduled for June 5 and 6, the event, sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President (Research & International Affairs) and the McMaster Industrial Liaison Office (MILO), provides McMaster, HHS and St. Joe's researchers with an opportunity to display their research to both the McMaster community, as well as to investors and technology scouts from industry.

The McMaster Innovation Showcase 08 will help faculty and researchers

  • Meet investors and technology scouts
  • Identify new opportunities for collaborative research
  • Learn from fellow researchers who have commercialized their research
  • Discover ways of creating a broader social impact with their research findings
  • Learn about funding opportunities

As well, a poster competition will give faculty and students a second opportunity to present their work. A panel of judges will select the three best posters which will receive prizes (first place $1,000; second $500; and third $250).

“McMaster, HHS and St. Joe's are home to some of the country's most talented individuals who conduct leading-edge research. Already some of that research is being used to make our nation safer, healthier and more productive. The Innovation Showcase is a great forum to highlight new research — research that will, no doubt, have a large economic and societal impact in the future,” said Mo Elbestawi, vice-president (research & international affairs).

On the first day, the showcase will feature the poster competition as well as presentations from McMaster faculty and researchers who have commercialization-ready research. The day will close with a panel discussion by venture capitalists explaining what they look for when they consider supporting a technology.

The second day will include a seminar on funding strategies for commercialization and a series of case studies on Hamilton-area projects that have been successfully commercialized. The day will end with a tour of McMaster Innovation Park.
