McMaster hosts March Break Saturday

It's March break for area high school students, and that means thousands will be touring campuses across the country to get a closer look at campus life. This week, McMaster will host approximately 1,900 prospective undergraduate students for 90-minute campus tours. In addition, about 2,200 people are expected to visit the campus on Saturday, March 17.

McMaster hosts Ontario Biology Day conference

University students from across Ontario will attend the annual Ontario Biology Day conference at McMaster on March 17 and 18. They will present results from their senior honours research projects, which are conducted under the supervision of faculty members at various universities.

McMaster delegates win five awards at Model UN

McMaster delegates joined more than 500 university students and proved their diplomatic abilities at the Canadian Model United Nations (CANIMUN), winning a total of five awards. CANIMUN, the nation's largest UN simulation, welcomed delegates from all over Canada and the world for intense debate at the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa from March 7 to March 10.

Researchers study second language loss in elderly

Imagine coming to Canada as a young adult from a country where English is not spoken. Over the years, you work hard to learn English and, using it every day of your life, end up speaking it well. As you become elderly, however, you begin to lose your ability to communicate in your second language and, often without noticing, find yourself speaking your native tongue.

McMaster engineering teams bring home silver

Both teams representing McMaster at the Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) in Saskatoon last weekend finished in second place. Corey Centen and Nilesh Patel, inventors of the CPR Glove, and fourth-year electrical and biomedical engineering students, earned silver in the Innovative Design category.

Students prove perfection is possible

Most students can only dream of scoring a perfect GPA, but for two McMaster students, that dream is a reality. Peter Martorelli and Andrew Lambert are among an exceptional group of 40 students who received the Provost's Medal last week for their perfect grades. Not only did Martorelli and Lambert achieve a 12.0 GPA, they did it more than once.

Premier announces $15.5 million for automotive research

Ontario automotive manufacturing research shifted into a higher gear yesterday with the announcement of $15.5 million in funding from the Government of Ontario. The funding will be used in the establishment of the $46.5-million Initiative for Automotive Manufacturing Innovation led by McMaster University and the University of Waterloo.

GO Bus terminal opens today

A new and improved GO Bus terminal is now open on campus between Mary E. Keyes Residence and H.G. Thode Library, west of the E.T. Clarke Centre. The terminal is wheelchair- accessible and has heated shelters for passengers.
