McMaster participates in World Record Walk

A total of 158 students, staff and faculty participated in the World Record Walk on Oct. 3 in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people walking one kilometre at the same time.

Creatine plus exercise enhances strength in older adults

Lower muscle mass and an increase in body fat are common consequences of growing older. While exercise is a proven way to prevent the loss of muscle mass, a new study led by McMaster researcher Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky shows that taking a combination of creatine monohydrate (CrM) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in addition to resistance exercise training provides even greater benefits.

Truck access to McMaster

A vote at Hamilton city council Wednesday night means some changes to the way trucks access the McMaster campus. The city passed a bylaw that eliminates King Street as a truck route and puts restrictions on the number of trucks that can use the Sterling Street entrance.

Forum answers questions about electoral reform

The Department of Political Science will hold a public forum to bring together key figures in the debate on electoral reform on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The discussion will include leading Ontario academics, advocates for the "yes" and "no" sides of the referendum, members of the Citizen's Assembly that developed the proposal and the Minister responsible for the initiative, Marie Bountrogianni.

Study finds that men with deep voices have more children

Men who have lower-pitched voices have more children than do men with high-pitched voices, McMaster researchers have found. And their study suggests that for reproductive-minded women, mate selection favours men with low-pitched voices.

CPRGlove places second at Innovation Competition

And the beat goes on for McMaster electrical and biomedical engineering students Corey Centen and Nilesh Patel. Their CPRGlove invention took second place at the annual IEEE Canada/TELUS Innovation Competition on Sept. 14 in Edmonton. They take home $5,000 for their efforts.

Dr. Alan J. Smith, C.D., B.S.A., M.Ed, D.Ed and professor emeritus at McMaster University, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
