These guests were McMaster employees and their families attending the McMaster Employee Spirit Society (M.E.S.S.!) annual employee recognition football event.

McMaster fans were delighted to watch the Marauders achieve victory, with the final score being Marauders 39, Varsity Blues 11. At half time, McMaster was leading by a mere 6-2, but then scored 33 points in the second half to secure the victory.

The event was sponsored by M.E.S.S.! in partnership with the Department of Athletics and Recreation and the Hamilton Tiger Cats organization. Attendees were treated to a complimentary BBQ lunch, entrance to the game and the opportunity to win prizes.

Employees also participated in the game. Mark Haley, assistant vice-president of Human Resources Services, tossed the game coin. Haley has had a close relationship with the football team during his tenure at McMaster, being both volunteer coach and mentor to many of the players, past and present.

The ceremonial kick-off was performed by Lisa Boniface, co-chair of McMasters 2007 United Way campaign. Boniface was announcing the upcoming McMaster campaign, which will run during the month of October this year. The United Way also had a presence at the game with an information booth and a 50/50 draw. Winner of the 50/50 draw was Lori Edwards, mother of Marauder player #40 James Edwards.

“We had a fabulous turnout for this event,” says Pat Harris, chair of the M.E.S.S.! Committee. “The complimentary tickets were sold out within two weeks of announcing their availability. For the past two years, each M.E.S.S.! event has been oversubscribed and the feedback that we have received from participants has been extremely flattering.”

Members of M.E.S.S.! include Mark Alfano, Athletics & Recreation, Deridor Collier, CIS, Josie D'Alessandro, Physical Plant, Lou DiDomenico, CIS, Pat Fraser, University Secretariat, Kathy Kishimoto, Office of the Vice-President Administration, Sara Lake, Human Resources Services and Dale Stevens, School of Nursing.
