Astronaut returns McMaster crest from space

Pop music isn’t pop science for PhD student

For Athena Elafros, research is music to her ears. The PhD student in sociology turned her lifelong love of music into a research project that will examine the ways in which values and social differences such as race, class, gender and sexuality are performed, represented and consumed within urban music and alternative rock.

McMaster updates plans for Burlington Campus

McMaster continues to make progress as it works towards opening a new campus in Burlington. Today, the University provided the Mayor and City Council with an update on the project, including a decision to pursue new sites within the City rather than the downtown location.

Joyful applause filled Convocation Hall earlier today as the McMaster community celebrated the news of a $10 million gift to liberal arts from Chancellor Lynton (Red) Wilson. Wilson received a standing ovation from students, faculty, staff and guests when President Peter George announced the extraordinary gift.

McMaster Chamber Orchestra performs this weekend

The McMaster Chamber Orchestra will perform its first concert of the season on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. in Convocation Hall. The concert will feature an eclectic program under the direction of Keith Kinder, associate professor in the School of the Arts, including a special performance of the restored version of the overture to Colas et Colinette, the first opera performed in Canada.

The program, which began with a marketing plan prepared by a group of third-year commerce students, is designed to assist employers with hiring and retaining qualified employees with disabilities.

DeGroote reclaims top spot in MBA survey

DeGroote School of Business MBA graduates enjoy a triple-digit percentage increase in salaries upon graduating, leading all other business students across the country. A new survey by Canadian Business magazine shows DeGroote Co-op MBAs enjoying a 118 per cent post-graduation salary increase, allowing DeGroote to reclaim the top spot in the national study.
