Theatre and film students put their work on stage

Following the changing pattern of both Canadian and international theatre, the emphasis is on collaborative creation.

This year's Series features a combination of new work and written plays, all of which engage directly with significant issues of our times. Come and see these six exciting and dynamic pieces of theatre that reflect the important concerns of a generation of McMaster students.

  • Week One: Godzilla!, Jan. 17 and 18

    Straight from the mountaintops and downtown streets of central Japan, a theatrical cult classic of enormous proportions, Godzilla! is a love story about an innocent Japanese girl who falls in love with a famous monster. Written by Yasuhiko Ohashi, translated by M. Cody Poulton and directed by Lavenia Reid.

  • Week Two: Crow's Nest, Jan. 24 and 25

    This exciting expressionistic play explores the relationship between self-perception and the perception of others in the formation of social and personal identity. Written and directed by Mark Barreca, Alexa DiCresce and Meredith Heyland.

  • Week Three: Consumed, Feb. 7 and 8

    This play explores one man's hilarious and surreal journey through the world of advertising. Caught between the demands of corporate profit and social responsibility, our hero struggles to find balance for himself and for the world. Written and directed by Colleen Bain, Jason Hunter and Rob Reider.

  • Week Four: Lion in the Streets, Feb. 14 and 15

    Judith Thompson's classic play explores the darkest corners of urban life and the human soul. Follow Isobel, the ghost of a murdered young girl, as she seeks her killer in her old neighbourhood and becomes a silent, compassionate witness to the painful lives of her old neighbours. Warning: This play contains explicit language and scenes that may not be suitable for children. Written by Judith Thompson and directed by Sally Panavas and Mike West.

  • Week Five: Sixteen Stunning Storeys from the City Streets (Bring Your Spare Change), Feb. 28 and 29

    An honest and compassionate look at the city streets and the lives we live there, incorporating documentary video, dramatic scenes and street entertainment. Admission is free, but bring your spare change! Written and directed by James Thomas and Elaine Wong.

  • Week Six: Jude, I Am, March 6 and 7

    Fairytale interweaves with reality as we watch the life of Jude unfold from birth to graduation in this fun and fantastical play about one man's journey to adulthood. Written and directed by
    Larissa Benedetti, Sarah Midghall and James Shearer.
