Follow-up information: MacMail outage on Friday, June 26
Following last Friday’s McMaster Daily News update, please see below details on the cause of the MacMail outage that occurred Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Please note, this was not an issue with email servers or the new McMaster Mail (Microsoft 365) service. Rather, the firewalls that protect all Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) servers, including campus MacMail email service, went offline unexpectedly, causing all systems behind these firewalls to also go offline. This was related to settings on the firewalls. Once the firewall devices were manually updated by our colleagues within Computer Services Unit (CSU), services came back online and were stable over the weekend. Steps have been taken to eliminate similar issues from taking place in future.
