McMaster a five-time winner in regional top employers list

McMaster University has been named one of Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers for the fifth year in a row.

An annual competition organized by the editors of “Canada’s Top 100 Employers,” Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers is a juried designation that recognizes employers who lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Benefits such as parental-leave top-ups, tuition subsidies and on-site fitness facilities were highlighted as reasons for the win.

“This continued recognition speaks to the strength of our faculty, staff and programs,” said acting president David Farrar. “Thank you for your support in making McMaster such a leader in our community.”

“Our people are our greatest asset,” added Wanda McKenna, assistant vice-president and chief human resources officer. “We strive to attract, develop, retain and inspire the best in the world. No matter your role, McMaster is better because you are here.”

This recognition follows other recent news that showcases McMaster’s strengths as an employer, research powerhouse and global leader in impact:

  • In April, McMaster placed second in the world in a new international ranking that recognizes the impact universities are making in their own countries and on a global scale
  • In September, for the first time since 2012, McMaster was ranked among the top 75 universities in the world
  • In 2019, McMaster was named a top Canadian employer for diversity and inclusion, recognizing the progress the university has made in this area

To be selected as a Hamilton-Niagara Top Employer 2020, organizations are required to complete a lengthy application which includes: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere and Communications; Health Benefits; Financial Benefits and Compensation; Family-Friendly Policies; Training and Development; Vacation Policy and Paid Days Off; and Community Involvement.
