Two Marauders prepare for NFL camps

Ben D'Aguilar

Defensive lineman Ben D’Aguilar (left) pictured here with first-year Marauder Shane Beaton during last year's Vanier Cup game in Toronto. D’Aguilar, along with offensive lineman Matthew Sewell, will attempt to crack an NFL roster in the weeks ahead.

They’ve dominated the game on the Canadian side of the border, and now Matthew Sewell and Ben D’Aguilar will take a run at the National Football League.

Sewell signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans and D’Aguilar has been invited to a try out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Nothing is guaranteed, but it brings each player one step closer to playing at the highest level of competition.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Sewell, a fourth-year Commerce student from Milton, Ont., while speaking with Hamilton Spectator reporter Scott Radley. “Everyone dreams of playing in the NFL. I’ll see how that goes and go from there.”

D’Aguilar, a Hamilton native and Philosophy major, earned the J.P. Metris Trophy last fall as the top defensive lineman in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

The story was picked up by the Hamilton Spectator, TSN, The Globe and Mail and several other news outlets.
