McMaster Athletics Hall of Fame welcomes the Class of 2015

This year's athlete inductees included Marauder greats John Bottineau (soccer), Fabio Filice (football), Annette Shiels (soccer and ice hockey) and Pam Wilson (wrestling). Former football and basketball coach Wes Hicks was inducted in the builder/coach category, while the 1984-85 men’s wrestling team was honoured in the team category.


Once a Marauder, always a Marauder.

The 32nd annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place Thursday evening in the Sport Hall, David Braley Athletic Centre.

Along with four outstanding varsity athletes, one inductee in the builder/coach category and one team were added to the illustrious list of those who have truly excelled while representing the University.

This year’s athlete inductees included Marauder greats John Bottineau (soccer), Fabio Filice (football), Annette Shiels (soccer and ice hockey) and Pam Wilson (wrestling).

Former football and basketball coach Wes Hicks was inducted in the builder/coach category, while the 1984-85 men’s wrestling team was honoured in the team category. The latter captured the 1985 CIAU national championship, which was hosted at McMaster.

Among other qualifications, student-athletes who are inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame must be an “M” letter holder, with a minimum of two years varsity participation.

Student-athlete inductees must also be graduates of McMaster, and have significant provincial and national championship titles to their names.

Team inductees must have competed with distinction at the highest level of competition available. Builders/coaches are assessed based on their significant contributions to the development of an athletic program or team.

McMaster President Patrick Deane delivered the welcoming address at Thursday’s gala, praising the inductees for their  pursuit of excellence, both on and off the field.

Peter George, President Emeritus of the University, was also in attendance at the induction ceremony.
