Cindy Nelles, a fourth-year Civil Engineering student on the women’s rugby team, took home the female athlete of the year award after becoming the first McMaster female to be named the national player of the year in a team sport.

Award finalists:  Darcy Arends, Rowing; Danielle Boiago, Basketball; Summer Chou, Badminton.

Third-year History & Political Science student, Stephen Maar, from our CIS silver medal men’s volleyball team, was honoured as the male athlete of the year.

Award finalists:  Ahmed Shamiya, Wrestling; Blair Morgan, Cross Country & Track; Karl Zimmermann, Rowing.

The Faculty of Science had students take home four of the eight major awards.

Our male rookie of the year, Brad MaGarrey, taught Greg Rombough (Manager, Undergraduate Programs, DeGroote School of Business) a few wrestling moves earlier this year.

Field goal kicker and Geography student-athlete wrote a piece in our year-in-review around his field goal lesson with Acting Associate Dean of Social Sciences, James Gillett (page 9).
