World Sepsis Day symposium

Members and trainees of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) are encouraged to attend the McMaster World Sepsis Day Symposium on Friday, Sept. 13.

This full-day event coincides with World Sepsis Day, and will include a variety of sessions and panel discussions that will be interactive and inter-professional. The objective of the day is to facilitate knowledge exchange among interdisciplinary and inter-professional healthcare providers and researchers. Common themes identified through symposium discussions will help catalyze development of collaborative pediatric sepsis research and/or quality improvement initiatives.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Great Hall of the University Club, and will be followed by a networking event at the University Club starting at 4:30 p.m. Attendance is free but registration limited. Email mcmasterworldsepsisday@gmail.com to request registration for the symposium.

Children’s poster contest

As part of McMaster’s World Sepsis Day efforts, there will also be a children’s poster contest on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the main lobby of the McMaster Children’s Hospital. Children under the age of 17 are invited to create a poster with the theme “Battling Bad Bacteria and Other Bugs.” Participants can bring their work to the World Sepsis Day poster event for judging, and potentially win a prize. All children will receive a token recognizing their participation. Click here for further information on how to participate in the poster contest.

Organizers are also looking for volunteers. Anyone interested in assisting with the poster contest can email Dr. Melissa Parker at parkermj@mcmaster.ca.
