Upcoming network maintenance: Jan. 20 – 22

Technology Services (UTS) will be conducting maintenance on McMaster’s network during two scheduled windows on the weekend of Jan. 20–22. This work is part of UTS’s 2023 Maintenance Weekend Schedule, and is an important part of ongoing efforts to increase McMaster’s network reliability and performance.

You can find details on the planned work and sign up for real-time updates by visiting the McMaster IT Systems Dashboard. An overview of the work is also provided below:

Maintenance window 1: Friday, Jan. 20, 6 p.m. – Saturday Jan. 21, 6 a.m.

During this time, there will be a complete outage of all Oracle-supported platforms, including Mosaic, Jira, and others. For a full list of impacted platforms, and to see the most up to date information, please visit the McMaster IT Systems Dashboard.

If you are responsible for any of the hosted applications, please contact the PS Admin team at c-psadmin@mcmaster.ca to arrange a scheduled, controlled shutdown of the applications before work begins.

Maintenance window 2: Sunday, Jan. 22, 8 a.m. to  1 p.m.

Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., some portions of the network will be disrupted, including Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Additionally, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Azure Cloud Infrastructure will be unavailable for a period of 30 minutes each.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., network outages may occur in certain buildings on campus including Kenneth Taylor Hall, DeGroote School of Business, and Togo Salmon Hall. These outages are expected to last for up to one hour, and may impact all wired, wireless and telephony services.

We understand that interruptions to our network services can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
