Tribute planned for David Sackett
A celebration of the life of David L. Sackett will be held Monday, June 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the second floor auditorium of the David Braley Health Sciences Centre, 100 Main Street West, Hamilton.
“There have been many tributes to his high impact career since his death last month, so we will be highlighting the personal Dave Sackett,” said Holger Schünemann, chair of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and host of the event.
“We’re inviting everyone, and we’ll be presenting the personal stories that many people recently have been telling and retelling with great affection and joy.”
Sackett, a professor emeritus of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, became the chair of Canada’s first Department of Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics when he arrived at McMaster in 1967.
He became world-renowned for developing evidence-based medicine, a medical approach based on scientific evidence and critical appraisal. Although he left in 1994 to join the University of Oxford, he continued a life-long relationship with McMaster, its faculty and staff.
