Thode Library/Makerspace, Nuclear Reactor part of Doors Open Hamilton (May 4)

During Doors Open Hamilton, H.G. Thode Library of Science and Engineering will be celebrating 40 years and the important legacy of its namesake, Henry “Harry” Thode, a distinguished nuclear researcher and past McMaster president.

Pop into Thode Library to learn about Harry and our building, and try your hand at making in our Makerspace. Let’s Talk Science McMaster and Mathstronauts will be on hand to show you some cool science experiments and projects, too. We’ll provide the refreshments, just bring your curiosity.

The McMaster University Nuclear Reactor and Brockhouse Institute are also taking part in Doors Open Hamilton. View particle accelerators up close, and take a virtual tour of a nuclear reactor. Visitors of all ages can experience science first-hand as they practise identifying radioactive objects, learn about crystallography, medical isotopes, neutron science, and historical uses of radioactive materials.

Doors Open Events take place on Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
