Team Fu Mac Chu supports Movember

As part of Movember, a team of medical residents at McMaster University have ditched their razors and started sprouting facial hair – all in the name of raising money and public awareness about prostate cancer and men’s mental health.

They’re team Fu Mac Chu – a play on the Fu Manchu moustache with its long, thin hairs and tips pointed downwards. The team currently has 12 members, but new recruits are still welcome.

The tradition of growing moustaches during November first became popular in Melbourne, Australia in 2003, and has since spread around the world. “It’s much more than prostate cancer. A major part (of Movember) is addressing mental health issues because men are under-diagnosed and under-treated,” says team captain Dr. Ian Wright.

Last year, the McMaster team raised $1,600, and Wright hopes to beat that amount this year. All donations are welcome.
