Sterling Street construction begins with lane closures

The City of Hamilton has notified McMaster University that it is beginning construction on Sterling Street. The first phase of the project begins Monday, April 10 and will involve lane restrictions on Sterling Street between Forsyth Avenue W. and Whitton Road, however vehicular traffic will be accommodated in both directions

During phase one of construction, the sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians on only one side of the street. The city is asking cyclists travelling on Sterling Street to dismount and walk their bike on the sidewalk past the construction area.

Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus routes remain the same on campus during this phase of construction.

To access campus via the Sterling Street entrance, students, faculty and staff should plan for extra time. Please keep safety in mind by following all traffic and pedestrian signs.

The City of Hamilton is conducting this work on Sterling Street as part of capital improvements to the sewer system.

We will share more information about subsequent phases of the construction project on Sterling Street from the City of Hamilton as soon as they are available.
