Statement: President Patrick Deane on Canadian professors being held in Egypt

Last month two Canadian professors, John Greyson of York University and Tarek Loubani a medical doctor and professor at Western University, were detained while travelling in Egypt. Despite indications they would be released, Greyson and Loubani remain in custody in Cairo and there is no indication of when they will be freed.

McMaster University joins other universities in Canada and around the world calling for the immediate release of the two professors. We are deeply troubled by the events of the past few weeks and support efforts to secure their release. We urge the government to continue to do all it can to ensure the safe passage of Greyson and Loubani back to Canada.
