Smoking on campus


McMaster University is committed to providing a smoke free and healthy environment for students, employees, and visitors. This is a reminder to all individuals on campus that as per Risk Management Manual # 402: Smoking in the Workplace/Public Areas, smoking within 9 meters of any main floor building entrance or exit, fresh air intake duct, or opening window is prohibited.

Please be aware that Parking and Security Services will assist in the resolution of any compliance issues within these areas. The City of Hamilton Public Health and Community Services will also carry out inspections and investigate complaints in order to enforce the Smoke-Free Ontario Act 2006 and the City of Hamilton Smoking By-Law No. 02-054.

Anyone who violates this is subject to a fine of up to $ 5000. Thank you for being respectful to those around you in ensuring that everyone can enjoy a smoke-free and healthy environment.
