Requirements for golf cart use on campus

Environmental and Occupational Health Support Services would like to remind all members of the McMaster community of the requirements for using golf carts on campus.

Risk Management Manual document #318, Care and Control of Golf Carts & Other Off Road Vehicles, outlines the requirements in detail. Please see weblink http://www.workingatmcmaster.ca/med/document/RMM-318-Care-and-Control-of-Golf-Carts-and-other-Off-Road-Vehicles-Program-1-36.pdf  to read the document.

To support the Workplace & Environmental Health and Safety Policy, specific training must be provided to all individuals who operate golf carts. The training is the responsibility of the local manager or supervisor.  Training materials can be obtained by e-mailing eohss@mcmaster.ca or by reviewing this weblink  http://www.workingatmcmaster.ca/eohss/training/

These materials include a PowerPoint presentation and a quiz.

o   Please note that all drivers must have a full and valid G licence.

o   Golf carts are not to be operated on any sidewalks without specific authorization from Security for a specific event.

o   Occupancy seating is based on the number of seat belts in the golf cart.  Example 2 people in the front seating area only

o    Golf cart must be clearly marked/identifiable as to department owner

o   The storage area for the golf cart must be approved by Security Services.

The PowerPoint presentation covers all topics that need to be reviewed with your golf carts operators. The quiz ensures that your operators understand the requirements. Once the quiz is completed, it can be dropped off at the EOHSS office located at Gilmour Hall 304.

At that time, the operator will be issued a card identifying them as a competent operator. This card must then be kept on the operator’s person while operating golf carts on campus.

If you have any questions, please contact the EOHSS office at ext. 24352.
