Heilman to deliver Jewish studies lecture


The Department of Religious Studies is pleased to announce that Samuel Heilman will deliver the 2012 Lillian and Marvin Goldblatt Lecture in Jewish Studies.

Heilman will present a lecture titled “Lubavitch, Messianism and the Denial of Death” on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in CIBC Hall.

He currently holds the Harold Proshansky Chair in Jewish Studies at the Graduate Centre, and is a distinguished professor of sociology at Queens College, City University of New York.

Heilman is also the author of eleven books – including the 2010 National Jewish Book Award-winning The Rebbe: The Life and Afterlife of Menachem Mendel Schneerson – and is the editor-in-chief of Contemporary Jewry.
