Possible Canada Post labour disruption

Canada Post is advising of the possibility of a national labour disruption beginning July 2. A disruption in postal services will impact the University in a number of ways.

The following information will help the community prepare and plan for a possible disruption.

On Campus

(including MARC, MIP, OJN,DBHSC, Juravinski, St. Joseph’s, HSC, Regional Medical Associates)

McMaster Campus Mail Services will continue to pick up and deliver inter campus mail.
All perishables received by non Canada Post delivery services will be received and delivered by McMaster logistics.

Outbound Campus Mail

(including MARC, MIP, OJN,DBHSC, Juravinski, St. Joseph’s, HSC, Regional Medical Associates)

If there is a disruption, Canada Post will not accept any mail or parcels. Mail boxes across the country will be sealed and postal outlets will be closed.
No Canada Post mail will be accepted, sorted or delivered.
McMaster Campus Mail Services will continue to pick up any outbound mail from campus offices, departments and locations and will store that mail in a secure location for distribution via Canada Post once the labour disruption is ended.
You will not be able to request the return of mail that has been picked up and is being stored by Mail Services.
During a disruption, courier is the best option for any letters or packages that are time sensitive.

Purchasing and Accounts Payable

Should there be a disruption, the following advice is provided for those making purchases and making/receiving payments:

Use couriers for delivery of urgent supplier payments but hold high volume, low dollar supplier payments (ie. Rogers, Bell) and courier those once a week
Use P Cards to make any new purchases
For those holding Diners MasterCards but not P Cards, the University is approving the use of Diners cards to purchase goods and services
Notify suppliers with outstanding payments owed they are able to pick up cheques on campus.

Student Accounts

For payments of Student Accounts McMaster no longer accepts cheques or cash (as of July 1). Payments may be made online through your bank by adding McMaster University as a payee and using your 9-digit student number as the requested account number.

Students seeking University transcripts

In the event of a Canada Post service interruption, transcripts may still be requested, but will not be mailed until postal service resumes. Transcripts being sent to other Ontario Universities will continue to be delivered by IUTS (Inter-University Transit System) without interruption.

Fax or Courier delivery options are also available when requesting your transcript on Mosaic. For questions about transcripts please contact the Office of the Registrar at (905) 525-4600.
