Parking update at McMaster

Monthly Fees Returning to Pre-Pandemic Rates

McMaster continuously strives to provide convenient parking options and maintain market rates consistent with other post-secondary institutions.

During the pandemic, parking rates were temporarily reduced for staff and faculty to help accommodate and support those required to be on campus and for those gradually returning to in-person work.

As our in-person presence grows, McMaster is restoring the regular, pre-pandemic parking rates to maintain the quality of our parking facilities and align with rising operational costs.

When possible, those who commute to campus are encouraged to choose sustainable travel options like public transportation, cycling and carpooling.

New Permit Sharing Program

In response to feedback from the university community, McMaster is introducing a new permit sharing program this fall as an alternative for those who will not need to park on campus full time.

For the first phase, faculty and staff can share their parking permit with one other person. Only one of the vehicles can park on campus using the permit at any one time.

For Phase 2 of the program, an expansion to include student parking will be determined based on the program’s success and the feedback received.

More information about how faculty and staff can participate in the new pilot permit sharing program will be shared in the coming weeks.

Parking Services Strategy

Valuable feedback and input collected from the McMaster community has helped shape the new Parking Services Strategy to launch this fall.

The strategy will align with McMaster’s upcoming Campus Plan, which will address the parking needs of the university and help manage future parking demands in a proactive and sustainable way.
