Nominations open for President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning

Dear Deans, Chairs and Directors,

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning 2016. As you know, these awards are intended to demonstrate the value McMaster attaches to its educational function and recognizes those who, through innovation and commitment, have significantly enhanced the quality of their students’ learning experience.

All full-time and part-time faculty and staff who contribute to teaching and learning at McMaster are eligible to be nominated for these awards. Up to five awards will be made each year.

A number of changes have been made to the nomination process this year, including dividing the award into three categories: pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, and mentoring or leadership. This year we are also requesting that nominations be submitted by a Dean or Chair to help ensure equity in the quality of nominations. Please note that there is no limit on the number of nominations that any Dean or Chair can submit.

As previously, the first step in the nomination process is to submit a nomination brief, which is due by no later than 4:00 p.m. on January 18, 2016. The selection committee will then review the nomination briefs and invite selected nominees to develop and submit a nomination portfolio by March 15, 2016.  A copy of the call for nominations is attached and further information and support can be obtained from Jennifer Faubert of MIIETL (fauberjl@mcmaster.ca) or at: http://miietl.mcmaster.ca/site/presidents-award/.

Please help us to recognize and honour our most innovative and outstanding teachers and mentors by taking the time to complete a nomination and by encouraging those in your faculties, departments and units to do the same.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Patrick
