New opportunities for HRES Director

After serving eight years as McMaster’s Director of Human Rights and Equity Services, Milé Komlen is leaving McMaster to undertake new roles in higher education.

Komlen will become the Managing Director of the Colleges and Universities Complaint Resolution and Investigations Unit, where he will continue his legal practice in human rights by supporting post-secondary institutions in the areas of equity and inclusion.

Further, he has been elected President of the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE). Founded in 1984, the organization provides professional development for individuals employed at colleges and universities in the area of discrimination and harassment as identified under human rights law.

“This is an appropriate time to recognize the important results and work of the Human Rights and Equity Services team,” said Provost David Wilkinson. “McMaster is a welcoming and inclusive community thanks to the essential work of everyone in HRES, under the leadership of Milé Komlen.”

As announced earlier, McMaster is making significant enhancements to its ongoing efforts to ensure an equal and diverse campus with the implementation of new measures that build on the progress achieved over the past number of years.

The changes, to be implemented over the coming months, include a new senior role overseeing campus diversity initiatives and a new equity and inclusion office to serve the human rights needs of McMaster.
