January 29 is the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia. On this day in 2017, six men were murdered and 19 others seriously wounded during prayers at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City. In 2021, the Government of Canada proclaimed January 29 a national day of remembrance to honour the victims and to dispel Islamophobia.

McMaster is lowering flags, and University Hall on the main campus will be lit with green lights from sundown Monday January 29 to sunrise on Tuesday, January 30, as part of this commemoration.
