Mac Serve day of service

MacServe: Day of Service is an annual campus-wide initiative organized by the Student Success Centre that offers students the opportunity to connect with local community organizations. As a participant in the Mac Serve: Day of Service event, you will spend a half-day volunteering in groups with a community agency.

This year is particularly exciting, as MacServe “Day of Service” will be featured in cities with a high concentration of alumni. This year, there will be four external MacServe “Day of Service” happening in Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

Our partner organizations include senior’s communities, environmental organizations, social service groups and youth centres. At the end of the day of service, participants will reflect on their experience and discuss it.

The goals of the day are:

  1. For participants to learn more about the needs that exist in our local community and how they are/are not being met.
  2. For our partner organizations to receive meaningful assistance and connect with McMaster’s student body.
  3. For participants to be inspired to get involved and make a difference.

You can participate as part of a team or individually. This program is also a great team builder for clubs, societies and residence communities. Registration begins on September 3, 2012 and takes place on a first come, first serve basis.

Community Partners: We typically start to connect with community partners in July regarding participating in MacServe “Day of Service”. If you are interested or would like more information, contact us at servicelearning@mcmaster.ca.

Team Leaders: Mac Serve “Day of Service” requires dozens of Team Leaders in order to run. If you have strong facilitation, problem solving and communication skills or you are interested in developing these skills, we encourage you to apply. Mac Serve for Commuters: Mississauga

In 2010 we introduced the MacServe Commuter option for students living outside of the Hamilton area. This program has resulted in successful placements and impressive feedback, which is why it will return for a third year. This option is for students who cannot travel to McMaster to participate. Transportation to and from Mississauga is not provided.
