Mac professor receives top mathematics honour


Dr. Walter Craig of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has been elected to the inaugural class of Fellows of the American Mathematical Society.

The AMS is one of the largest professional mathematics societies in the world. A fellow is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication and application of mathematics.

Craig is a renowned mathematical analyst who works primarily on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs). He also has a lifelong interest in wave phenomena related to oceans, cosmology and quantum mechanics. Craig currently holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier I) of Mathematical Analysis and its Applications at McMaster.
