Lunch and Learn with Academics Without Borders founder

On November 25th 2016, the MacPherson Institute and the Office of International Affairs will co-host a “lunch and learn” session with the Founder and Executive Director of Academics Without Borders (AWB), Steven Davis.

According to Arshad Ahmad, AVP Teaching & Learning at McMaster University, “AWB is focused on building capacity and community by connecting faculty across Canada who volunteer to help and provide support where it is needed the most that is quintessentially Canadian”.

The event, which is open and free to the McMaster community, will feature two presentations: the first by Steven Davis, Founder and Executive Director titled “The Academics Without Borders Story: Improving Universities in Developing Countries,”. This is followed by Karl Stobbe, the Regional Assistant Dean for the Niagara Campus of the McMaster Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, titled “Nepal – Working Together for Rural Medical Education.

Davis is a Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Simon Fraser University and Carleton University and Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at McGill University and the Université du Montréal.

Karl Stobbe has practiced as a family doctor in Beamsville for over 20 years and has been a faculty member at McMaster University since 1992, serving in several leadership roles. His interests include ensuring access to healthcare, improving the quality of healthcare, and the function of healthcare systems.
