IT Notice: Spoofing of McMaster Executive Email

Members of the community have reported receiving emails today purporting to be from David Farrar, acting president and vice-chancellor.

  • The subject of the message is “McMaster University Re-Evaluated and Up to Date Responsible Use of Technology Resources For David Farrar”
  • Attached to the message is a .PDF file named “McMaster University Shared Document.pdf”

The attachment is a Trojan Horse virus that downloads malware from a malicious website.

If you received this message, please report it to, then delete it.

If you opened the file your system should be scanned immediately for malware.  Please contact your IT support unit or the UTS Service Desk at for assistance.
