Investigation concludes into inappropriate room booking

The University’s investigation into the inappropriate booking of a library study room is complete.

In early December, a room was reserved in the Innis Library under the name “McMaster KKK meeting”. Study rooms are reserved through a self-booking website which requires a MAC ID. Library staff discovered the booking a few hours after it was made, quickly cancelling the reservation and beginning an investigation into its origins.

The investigation, conducted under the McMaster Student Code of Conduct, found that two students made the booking as a prank. They regret their actions, which they realize were ill-advised and inappropriate, and have been cooperative throughout the process. The students will receive education and sensitivity training which reflects the emphasis on accountability and education within the Code.

McMaster is committed to inclusivity and to fostering a respectful, civil and welcoming environment for all members of our community.
