Inspiring from Within conference a success

The 2014 Inspiring from Within employee professional development conference was
held on Friday, February 28 at Liuna Station.  This historical site in the centre of Hamilton’s downtown provided an amazing backdrop for the day’s events.

The Inspiring From Within conference has become one of the most sought-after events for many employees at McMaster, offering an opportunity for professional development, networking with colleagues, and a chance to rejuvenate amidst an often hectic time of year.  This year, over 220 employees attended.

Delegates were offered two breakout sessions from experienced and energetic speakers who were able to share insight and motivate the crowd.  This year’s speakers were:  Jesse Brown, “Productivity and Collaboration in the Age of Digital Distraction”; Julie Cole, “Business, Babies and Blogging”; Deirdre Pike, “Creating Positive Space”; and Randy Taylor, “The Winner Within: The Path to Personal and Professional Success”.

In addition, the keynote speaker, George Kourounis, former host of TV’s “Angry Planet” brought to life his amazing adventures chasing wild tornadoes, climbing erupting volcanoes, and exploring remote caves as he prepared us to “Face Any Storm”.

Throughout the day, the crowd was delighted as names were randomly drawn for the fabulous door prizes including an underwater camera and an iPad mini.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Inspiring from Within Committee.  This group of volunteer employees works diligently behind the scenes to present a quality event for all McMaster employees. The 2014 committee are: Lee Anne Bodo, Deridor Collier, Christine Cosgrove, Justyna Derkach, Cristina Foley, Meghan Forbes, Nicole Grosel, Marguerite Jackson, Sandra Johnson, Christine Kawerau (vice-chair), Nathaniel Knopp (chair), Lihua Qian, Heidi van Bodegom, Andrew Whitney, Jolanta Windsor and facilitators Stacie Cameron and Kyle Armstrong from Human Resources Services.
