Illume National Arts and Sports Festival comes to McMaster

McMaster will be home to hundreds of participants in the Illume National Arts & Sports Festival from Aug. 4 to Aug. 7.

Celebrating arts and sports, Illume 2023 brings together members of the Ismaili community in a qualifying event for the 2024 International Global Encounters Festival in Dubai.

With 1,500 athletes and artists staying on campus, and hundreds of volunteers and spectators at the event, campus and surrounding areas will be busy during the festival.

Students, staff, faculty and visitors should factor in extra travel time to allow for an increase in traffic on campus over the long weekend.

Shuttles will also be delivering athletes to and from satellite venues across Hamilton.

Festivities begin on Friday, Aug. 4 with an opening ceremony welcoming more than 5,000 attendees to Ron Joyce Stadium. Sporting and art events will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, and Sunday, Aug. 6, across campus. Final awards and closing ceremonies will be held Monday Aug. 7

Parking will be impacted for Lots B and C, D, G, H, I and Stadium Underground parking. Gates will be raised and supervised at these lots starting 4 p.m. Aug. 4, and will remain raised until 11 p.m. Aug. 7.

Lots M, N and P will also be available for guest and spectator parking.

The Athlete and Artist Village will include the David Braley Athletic Centre, Peter George Centre for Living and Learning, the McMaster University Student Centre and Convocation Hall. Housing and Conference Services has worked with partners across campus to welcome spectators and participants to Illume.
