February is Black History Month, an annual celebration and recognition of the ways that Black Canadians have contributed to Canada’s history and culture. Black History Month was officially recognized in Canada in 1995 when the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament, the Honourable Jean Augustine, introduced the motion.
