Why women need to speak up: Bridging the gender gap in public discourse
Women constitute 61 per cent of university graduates, but their voices account for less than 25 per cent in the commentaries of Canada’s largest daily newspapers and on public affairs talk shows.
That’s a problem.
When women are absent from both the corridors of power and mainstream news media, their perspectives and priorities are less likely to exert influence.
Informed Opinions is working to change that. The group explores the causes and consequences of this gap, mobilizing women to see themselves as an important part of the solution.
All are welcome to attend a free public lecture delivered by Shari Graydon of Informed Opinions — Why women need to speak up: Bridging the gender gap in public discourse — which will address these very issues.
The event will take place Friday, Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. in the Great Hall, University Club.
This free event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President, Research, and all are welcome. RSVP to research@mcmaster.ca
