Flags lowered in tribute to Arthur Yeas

McMaster’s flags are lowered today in tribute to Arthur Yeas, manager of the McMaster Biology Greenhouse, who died recently.

“We have lost a friend, an indefatigable advocate of Biology and valued colleague,” said Roger Jacobs, Chair of McMaster’s Department of Biology.

“Art was a privilege to work with. For him, plants were a vehicle to appreciate diversity in both nature and in people. His personal triumphs in raising exotic and challenging plants found purpose in how they engaged students, staff and the community in appreciating nature and learning about adaptation or botany.”

This year, Yeas received the President’s Award for Outstanding Service, and brought recognition to the greenhouse with the successful blooming of Titan Arum corms and harvesting bamboo to send to the pandas at the Toronto Zoo.
