Flagpole policy update

The policy on the lowering of McMaster’s flags has been updated.

The flags are lowered to half-mast as a sign of respect for the following reasons:

  • Remembrance Day, or national days of remembrance and mourning determined by the Parliament of Canada
  • The death of any current member of faculty, staff, student body, Senate or the Board of Governors as well as the death of any national or community figure
  •  For all other cases, the flag is to be lowered at the discretion of the President

McMaster’s flagpoles can be found in front of the Burke Science Building. The flagpoles fly the Ontario flag and the Canadian flag.

To find out why the flags are being flown at half-mast on a particular day, check the box located at the bottom of the flagpole.
