Community input sought as part of ongoing review of university policies

An ongoing review aims to improve the university’s processes related to its Discrimination and Harassment, Sexual Violence, and Research Integrity policies.

Investigator, arbitrator and mediator, Michelle Flaherty was retained by the university and the McMaster University Faculty Association last Fall to assess the institution’s current approach to investigations that fall under these policies. This review involves meeting with former complainants, respondents, key administrators, current and former MUFA Presidents and MUFA Grievance Officers.

All McMaster students, faculty and staff are invited to provide input on the university’s intake process for investigations related to these policies.

Flaherty will provide recommendations on investigation best practices, support for participants, procedural fairness, the role of intake office staff, timeliness, disclosure, confidentiality, implementation of interim measures, data gathering and record-keeping, and reporting of investigation results.

The input of our community is important to the process as it helps shape our policies and processes.

If you would like to provide input, please email Ms Flaherty at michelleflaherty@mac.com with the subject line “Best Practice Review Input” by June 1, 2023.  Our community’s continued commitment to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive university environment is appreciated.
