Health, Safety and Risk Management, in collaboration with Organizational Development, will be hosting a number of virtual sessions during Safety and Health Week and Mental Health Awareness Week taking place from May 4 to May 8.

The week will focus on promoting and celebrating health and safety at McMaster University.

Dr. Allan Rosenfeld, a practicing family physician and the University’s Occupational Medical Consultant, will present “How to Get the Most Out of Your Visit with Your Family Physician”.  Dr. Rosenfeld has practiced in West Mississauga for over 31 years, and will present his perspective of the do’s and don’ts when seeing your family physician.

With the frequently changing landscape due to COVID-19, the McMaster community is challenged with navigated the new realities of work and home. This session will look at how to achieve happiness and well-being for both employees working from home, and those who are working onsite. It will challenge the traditional definition of work-life balance, instead focusing on how the four happiest places on earth work to achieve this harmony. The annual Safety and Health Week BBQ and Vendor Fair allows us to recognize our Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members for their contributions towards health and safety at the University. At this time, we cannot move forward with the BBQ and Vendor Fair, but we still hope to see everyone and give our thanks. Please join the Health, Safety and Risk Management team during the lunch hour to ‘catch up and chat’ virtually.  We have missed you all and look forward to seeing some familiar faces over lunch.  More information can be found here.

May Yoga (Every Thursday in May)
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Join Jenn Stanley for all-levels intro to yoga.  This class will feature movement and poses with extra instruction for those new to the practice of yoga, but will also include poses familiar to those with a regular practice.  We will focus on intentional movement and breath with the goal of finishing the class feeling calm ready to continue your day. What you’ll need: Yoga mat or carpeted floor, water and a yoga block or thick book for optional support in some poses.  Register online.
