Call for nominations: Distinguished University Professor

Please accept this notice as an official call for nominations for the title of Distinguished University Professor (DUP).

Recent revisions have been made to the DUP policy.  These have now been approved by the Senate Committee on Appointments and will be soon presented to Senate for final approval.  The revisions include an increase in the number of such titles and a new process for nomination and selection.  This notice is being circulated in advance of Senate’s approval because of the need to start the nomination process now.

If approved, the timelines for identifying Distinguished University Professors will be amended for this year only, by shortening the nomination and selection process as follows:

The deadline for nominations is December 1.  The deadline for the submission of nominations selected for the final phase will be February 15.  The selection committee will make its recommendation to the Senate Committee on Appointments by March 15.

Please forward by December 1st (to provost@mcmaster.ca) a letter of nomination (maximum 3 pages) signed by four individuals, at least two of whom must be McMaster professors.  (Self-nomination is not acceptable).  The letter should outline why the nominee is deemed to fit the criteria for this title.  The nominee’s CV is also required.
