Active review of social media posts

The University is actively reviewing some disturbing social media posts after being made aware of them this week through a published internet news report.

McMaster is unequivocal in its condemnation of acts of anti-Semitism, hatred, and discrimination, and takes seriously its commitment to provide an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment for all members of our community. Quite clearly these social media comments do not reflect McMaster’s campus-wide commitment to inclusivity, civility, and respect. Our goal is to build an inclusive community with a shared purpose, founded on the principles of respect, collaboration and diversity. Hateful and disrespectful language directed against any individual, group, or community, has no place on our campus.

The tweets started in 2011 and were shared on personal social media accounts.

The University has policies and supports in place for any members of our community who have concerns about harassment or discrimination of any kind. Any individuals impacted in this way are encouraged to contact the Office of Equity and Inclusion (equity@mcmaster.ca) for help, support, and advice.
