Three Steel City Amazing Race participants pose at Hamilton's Woodlands Park. Race stops included Whitehern and LIUNA Station, as well as Westdale Cupcakes.

More than 100 area youth raced across Hamilton August 10 to learn more about the city they live in.

Student, staff and community volunteers with the Steel City Amazing Race assembled youth from the Eva Rothwell Resource Centre, the Sanford Boys and Girls Club and the Kiwanis Boys and Girls club at McMaster Saturday morning. The group then launched into a race around the city, during which they learned about area landmarks, services and businesses.

Teams travelled by foot and by bus to visit places like Whitehern, LIUNA Station, the radio station CHML and Cathy Weaver school.

There was even a sweet stop at Westdale Cupcakes.

The group met for lunch at Bayfront Park, and the day was capped off with a visit from Hamilton Tiger-Cats Brandon Beaudreaux and Ba’kari Grant as well as a performance by Of Gentlemen and Cowards.
