How much exercise do you really need? What would happen if we found alien life? And why is art so hard to understand?

If you’re looking to stir up debate, these questions are sure to get people talking.

That’s why a lively exchange is probably in the cards at the Alumni Association’s event of the same name.

Hosted by the Alumni Adventures in Continuing Education Committee, A Lively Exchange is a dinner party with a twist.

Attendees can sign up for seating at tables with specific topics of discussion – from bees and books to art and entrepreneurs – led by local subject matter experts.

Among the most popular subjects so far: chivalry (or the lack thereof) in modern society, wine and a discussion of life-changing books.

Professor Martin Gibala will lead a discussion on exercise, assistant professor Sarah Symons will help attendees wrestle with the idea of alien life and associate professor Judy Major-Girardin will take on the task of deciphering challenging art.

The night will include a multi-course dinner and is in celebration of 20th anniversary of the AACE committee, which is responsible for McMaster’s popular Albert Lager Lecture Series.

The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Pavilion at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Tickets are $50.
