Under the supervision of Judy Major-Girardin and visiting artist Gregg Schlanger, art students put together a collaborative art project, entitled Mapping Paradise, which explores the environment of Cootes Paradise and the surrounding area. This project receives support through the Office of the President's 'Forward with Integrity' funds.

McMaster will kick off a major celebration of the arts this September.

The Spotlight on the Arts will feature the best of McMaster theatre, concerts, lectures and exhibitions organized around a number of themes.

The festival will include an outdoor “plein air” demonstration by artist Jim Reid, a student performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a curator’s talk about the Baroque period at the Museum of Art and a number of celebrity performances, including one by the Toronto Mass Choir.

“The festival is meant to celebrate the many cultural contributions McMaster’s arts researchers and practitioners have made both on campus and in the community,” says Virginia Aksan, a professor of history and one of the Spotlight on the Arts’ lead organizers. “We want to show how the arts connect people and ideas, activate cultural discourse and empower lifelong learning.”

An opening event is being scheduled for early September. Spotlight on the Arts performances and exhibitions will begin in mid September.
