What it means to be a part of this community

In his latest monthly video, University President Patrick Deane discusses McMaster’s strategy to ensure the health and wellbeing of students throughout the academic year.

“There are a number of issues that are important to the University year round that we seek to bring to the attention of students at the start of the year,” says Patrick Deane. “They are all critical not only to the effective functioning of our University family, but they are also vitally important for the students — for their own well-being.”

The Welcome Week experience is built around focusing on mental health, the prevention of sexual violence, responsible drinking, and engagement with the broader Hamilton community.

“The priorities promoted during Welcome Week all add up to being a message about what it means to be a member of this community — one that is founded upon students also making a certain kind of commitment to their own personal conduct as part of that.”
